General :

What is the Techfee?
The students and administration supported a successful legislative effort to enable the establishment of a Student Technology Fee which would be used "exclusively for technology resources for general student use." The statute (RCW 28B.15.051) allowed the University to establish the fee upon the agreement of student government. Unlike tuition increases, the Student Technology Fee, as directed by statute, is to be spent only on technology for students. State law directs that the annual expenditure plans for the fee be approved by students rather than by the administration or the Board of Regents. The Student Technology Fee fund will enable the University to support a number of proposals that advance the goals of the technology fee, which are to improve the environment for computing and accessibility to computer resources at the UW. Money from the technology fee is not to be used to fund items that should properly be funded by legislative or administrative funds, nor is it anticipated that these funds will cover ongoing operational costs and/or supplies.

The techfee is further authorized by the Regent Agreement, which you can view by following this link.

What if I can't log in?
If you are unable to log in there are a few things to check before emailing with your problem. First of all, both usernames and passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure that you're entering it exactly like when you signed up. Secondly, to log-in we require cookies enabled in your browser, which in most browsers can be accessed from the Preferences under Privacy/Security. Lastly, if the date/time on your computer are incorrect for any reason (or just different from our time by a factor of more than 3 hours), then your cookie won't be accepted.

Problems with your computer access accounts?
Off-campus modem connection to UW and other information about your uniform access account. STF cannot help you if your Student Account has not been activated or you are having any kinds of problems accessing your account. Visit http://www.washington.edu/computing for any such problems.

I'm having issues with tax/shipping on my annual report..
In a previous incarnation of our database system tax and shipping were treated as special fields, and once a proposal was submitted they couldn't be changed. This worked fine as long as you spent the exact amount you specified earlier, however this usually isn't the case. So now tax and shipping are just item types, so just add them like any other item and specify the type as 'tax/shipping'. Further documentation is found on this on pages dealing with adding items.
